Presented last week by consistent gay-rights supporter Democratic State Senator Donald McEachin to the Party Central Committee, the LGBT and Family and Friends Stonewall Caucus has officially been approved by the Democratic Party of Virginia. Originally formed in July, the caucus unanimously became a member of the Democratic Party of Virginia.
According to Brian Boyce, Vice Chair of the caucus, their primary focus is “to help get GLBT candidates elected to office and to insure that GLBT issues are brought forward and aware, make things the way should.” The caucus hopes to work on repealing the Marshall-Newman Amendment, women’s rights, bullying in schools, veterans rights, as well as the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy and how to combat that locally.

This is great step, and I hope that we see GLBT candidates in Virginia very soon.
