Hey there Race Fans, your pit crew here to give you the eyes and ears to recap Week 2 in Esta’s Drag Race…
Sorry Lady Gaga while no one last week took a ride on your Disco Stick, our theme at the race did carry through the classic songs of the Disco Era.
Miss Esta Bunny greeted her audience and kicked off the show exuding the colors of the rainbow.
Millenium C. Snow, our Season 1 winner, made her reigning performance converging rhythmic gymnastics with the drag world by working her ribbon dancing. The American Ballet Company may have missed a great addition to their company with Miss Snow keeping her performance on point… on toe point that is.
During the interview portion of the evening, which some (who will remain nameless) may have argued ran a little dry, we got to know the ladies of Season 2 a little better.
Monica Duvall shocked no one by revealing the number one celebrity she loves impersonating is Britney Spears, but she also admitted she is SOOOO (yes that was 4 O’s in her answer) over doing Britney. Michelle D. Livinge said the one animal she’d honestly like to be is a horse. The publicist in her told her to say because they are so pretty, but Livinge being Livinge alluded to the fact of a certain endowment.
A drag queen dropping sexual innuendo. Surprised? I think not.
Andrea Duvon explained she knew it was okay for her to be “Andrea” when her own family stuck a five dollar tip in her top. Of all the pride colors, Zakia Jemaceye said she relates to red the most because it stands out and is beautiful. And last but not least, Porsche Ferrari informed us she likes climbing rocks because she likes putting the trust in someone to catch her during a good “whipper”.
However, we all know trust isn’t needed for a good whipper. All that’s needed is a sturdy leather whip and a partner with no inhibitions. This all coming from what I‘ve heard of course, I would never whip and tell.
Next came the parade of afros, sequins and go-go boots. Duvall worked out a major disco mega-mix and kept the audience guessing with what songs (Yes, that’s plural.) she was going to pull out. Livinge brought the disco era to present day through the Pussycat Dolls’ touch on “I Will Survive”. Duvon quickly became a crowd favorite revealing a red and silver sequined dress shining through her “Last Dance”. Porsche came out to her Abba tribute sporting new purple hair and an even flashier silver outfit. Zakia entered with her own fog machine, via a can of hairspray, and worked her “Car Wash”.
While there were no cars in sight for her to work, it was no surprise she did work the crowd… yet again.
So the judges left to tally their scores, Malachi came out wooed us with his charm and sensual moves.
Once the scores were pulled together it was time for Esta to declare our winner of the night. This contestant was called out last week for rocking the flip flops, however nothing but fierce heels were in sight this week. After Esta herself took notice and even complimented her, Zakia Jemaceye walked away the winner of Week 2.
The final competition of the night was Andrea Duvon versus Porsche Ferrari. Their challenge was to pull audience participation and rock out the “Y.M.C.A.”, and after a scene from a bad wedding reception, too many Y.M.C.A’s being thrown around, Esta shocked the crowd and decided Porsche was to stay for another week and Andrea had to “sachey away”.
Even Porsche herself was quite surprised, but there was no lack of gratitude or respect for Miss Andrea Duvon from her at all. In fact, this drag newbie was the epitome of a gracious winner.
And as for Duvon, she took her final lap with pride knowing she at least made a statement on the Nations stage. At the very least for being one of the tallest girls to walk that runway.
So party people, to gist it all up for you. Disco came back. Zakia worked it out and won the night. And our first race crash happened leading to the elimination of Andrea Duvon. Maybe we’ll see her at the reunion performances… maybe she’ll choose to take the detour around. I guess we’ll see once that checkered flag waves six weeks from now…
