Following up on this post, a call for photography has been added to Gallery5’s January 2010 show. GayRVA will be cosponsoring the month-long exhibit.
More from Gallery5:

Click to download the participant release form.
Gallery5 is seeking photographers willing to venture into their communities and create portraits of individuals from all walks of life including diverse sexual orientations, ethnicities, religious affiliations, economic status’, age groups and people that break free from typical stereotypes. This all-inclusive concept installation is created to challenge our viewers about the misconceptions of our sexual minorities and help them gain a perspective on our human similarities.
Each portrait will be accompanied with the participant’s definition of “Love” or “Hate”, including how they personally define themselves through sexual orientation. Personal “Love” and “Hate” definitions will be written on Model Release forms that permit both the photographer and the Say Love Project to use the image, quote and orientation in this series to be exhibited at Gallery5. Our design team will add all text to submitted photographs and will have them printed by a participating organization. To keep this print series consistent, some images may need to be cropped down to fit chosen print dimensions. The deadline for photography and contracts for this concept series’ submissions for display in our main gallery are Friday, December 11th.
Artists will be selected and notified on Saturday, December 12th. Please mail all visual art submissions to: visual@gallery5arts.org or mail submissions to: “Say Love” Gallery5 200 West Marshall St. Richmond, Virginia 23220

Thank you to everyone who supported the Pride Bus. With your help, GayRVA raised over $800 to go towards Gay Pride Virginia’s scholarship fund. Thank you to Babes, Barcode, Godfrey’s and Nations for their generosity.
In addition to waiving cover to their venues, these businesses also provided financial support to help cover the overhead expenses of the evening’s transportation. A special thank you to Nations who doubled their original contribution towards the bus.
GayRVA and these establishments were able to offer safe transportation to almost 120 people in hopes of creating unity in Richmond’s nightlife scene.
In an effort to make this a positive experience for all and to improve the bus for next year, we are open to feedback. Send comments directly to gayrva@gmail.com. Thank you to those that have already responded via e-mail and Facebook.
We apologize to our passengers if they experienced longer wait times than promised along the bus route. We hope that you were able to celebrate Pride and we are looking into ways to make the route more efficient next year.
We spoke to the owners of Nations and they extend an apology to patrons that were turned away during the Pride event after their venue reached capacity regulated by the Fire Marshall. They apologize for this inconvenience and have offered to follow through with their commitment.
Nations is waiving cover this Friday or Saturday night to passengers of the Pride Bus. Present a copy of your confirmation and they will honor free cover for one evening. You can retrieve your confirmation at http://www.eventbrite.com/mytickets.
If you paid cash the day of the festival or are having trouble accessing your confirmation, e-mail gayrva@gmail.com by Friday at noon with the name you registered.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On Thursday, September 10, GayRVA.com goes from blog to webmagazine. Readers will see a new layout with more dynamic content and improved navigation.
The new GayRVA.com also debuts a photo campaign painting a diverse portrait of “GayRVA.” The campaign features gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and queer (GLBTQ) Richmonders and allies with the site’s slogan “Out.Spoken.”
Also on September 10, to coincide with the redesigned site, New York Deli hosts a happy hour event from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. To add a social media twist, our Twitter followers will be able to take the conversation online using hashtag #thatgaytweetup. Join GayRVA.com and a few special guests as we come out again.
Who knew starting in March as a small community blog, GayRVA.com would grow up in a matter of months to become a valuable online resource?
“Really, it started over dinner with friends,” Editor Kevin Clay said. “During conversation we wondered why doesn’t Richmond have a gay blog?”
This simple idea turned into a social network with 1000 followers between Facebook and Twitter with the website steadily growing in readership. Combined with monthly events from a Launch Party, to a week of fundraising for AIDSWalk Richmond, to live video blogging at the Watermelon Festival, GayRVA.com has become an interactive tool connecting Richmond’s GLBTQ communities.
