Pride Bus Feedback Welcomed, Nations’ Offer to Passengers

pridebus_11x17Thank you to everyone who supported the Pride Bus. With your help, GayRVA raised over $800 to go towards Gay Pride Virginia’s scholarship fund. Thank you to Babes, Barcode, Godfrey’s and Nations for their generosity.

In addition to waiving cover to their venues, these businesses also provided financial support to help cover the overhead expenses of the evening’s transportation. A special thank you to Nations who doubled their original contribution towards the bus.

GayRVA and these establishments were able to offer safe transportation to almost 120 people in hopes of creating unity in Richmond’s nightlife scene.

In an effort to make this a positive experience for all and to improve the bus for next year, we are open to feedback. Send comments directly to gayrva@gmail.com.  Thank you to those that have already responded via e-mail and Facebook.

We apologize to our passengers if they experienced longer wait times than promised along the bus route. We hope that you were able to celebrate Pride and we are looking into ways to make the route more efficient next year.

We spoke to the owners of Nations and they extend an apology to patrons that were turned away during the Pride event after their venue reached capacity regulated by the Fire Marshall. They apologize for this inconvenience and have offered to follow through with their commitment.

Nations is waiving cover this Friday or Saturday night to passengers of the Pride Bus. Present a copy of your confirmation and they will honor free cover for one evening. You can retrieve your confirmation at http://www.eventbrite.com/mytickets.

If you paid cash the day of the festival or are having trouble accessing your confirmation, e-mail gayrva@gmail.com by Friday at noon with the name you registered.

Roaming Party Takes on Belle Isle for Sunday Picnic

RoamingPartyAfter the fireworks are over, Scott Reep and friends want you to pack your picnic baskets and bring them to Belle Isle on Sunday.

“There is more to being gay than going to a bar or a drag show,” he says. “There’s so much in Richmond. There’s so much in this community. Let’s go to a museum, let’s go to a park.”

With the monthly Roaming Party, Reep extends an open invitation to show people a different side of Richmond. Now in its second month, each event has two parts. The party starts out in a public setting then moves to a gay-owned and operated establishment. After this month’s Belle Isle picnic, the party continues at Barcode.

“I’m looking forward to introducing people to things they might have been around most of their lives.”

He wants the events to be fun for everybody and feels this will be an opportunity to for people that aren’t into the bar scene to socialize.

“I’m going to make it a point to do something different each month being out in the public eye,” he says. “The gay community is only part of a bigger community. The gay community is not separate. We’re just part of something bigger.”

He says while it’s a way to get the gay community in the public eye, this is not just another gay event.

“It’s an open invite to gay, straight, and transgendered. This is a community event for anyone that wants to have a good time.”

This month’s Roaming Party is Sunday, July 5 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Belle Isle, followed by an after-party at Barcode starting at 4 p.m. You can RSVP on Facebook.
